Papillon Winners

I need a new car! SO grateful to you all, & especially to secretary Wendy Waters, for remaining calm & accommodating (outwardly at least!) and rescheduling events so that my re-scheduled 1pm start was alongside so many of the other complementary events the Club runs from Special Awards ( 50 entered!) to handling & puppy walks & progeny parade. By the time the bitches re-commenced, after their lunch break, we were running in tandem thanks not least to my vastly experienced (NE Toys) stewards.

This Club has been central to my education in judging the Papillon (that commenced with Rogerstone Open on 12/10/74!) not least courtesy of the incomparable Jimmy Simpson so sadly recently lost but who, as ever before, took centre stage (literally) with a glorious framed photo. There was no better mentor. I was given my 1st Open breed show by the Club in 1986 and it was in November 1994 that I was first entrusted with this Club Ch show. I can still picture stopping dead in my tracks, as I viewed LD, in front of an “unknown” exhibitor & her b/w d. who later brought the house down (and slaps on my back from Jimmy!) as I awarded a 1st CC / BIS to Inixia Stylish Stan who never looked back!(12 CCs?).

Wendy was thrilled with today’s entry, as indeed I was, 24 yrs later with an incredible 98, of the 110 dog entries, present.

A Papillon requires “scope” in its structure by which I mean enough neck / length of leg / length of loin as well as facial refinement / high set tail carriage / fine bone / hare feet that combine together to give that dainty Butterfly lightness of foot & balanced freedom that is spellbinding as enhanced by flatly flowing silky coat & fringing. You need this first & foremost, in my view, before turning to details such as narrow blazes / facial symmetry or well broken coat markings.

This was the 2nd N & E Club Ch show of this year as it was the Club’s turn to host the one extra set of CCs that are available. It was truly a celebration / a party that took your breath away & was in the best tradition of a Northern Working Mens Club venue with free bacon butty & a brew on arrival; the gentlemen of the Committee dressed as bouncers; no mirror (to check your hair) in the gents; spot prizes, announced over the mike, all day; background music; glitter & Christmassy glam; hot grub; cake (and fizz); raffles . . and so it went on and on. THIS is the way to attract & keep your support in the dog game as acknowledged by the ever glamorous & apparently ageless President, Queenie Bruce, as she made a huge floral presentation of thanks to Wendy who had dedicated herself all year to the task and who explained to me that THIS Joint Ch show was the Club giving something back to its exhibitor supporters & members who, in turn, responded with 173 exhibits making 269 entries!

My specialist co-judge Estelle Kirk & I had no difficulty in settling any differences so as to arrive at unanimous joint decisions & we broke a little with tradition by inviting redundant referee Norma Inglis to actually present the chosen awards on our behalves.

I will leave Estelle to critique her own bitch exhibits & simply explain that I backed the b. for BIS as I found her to be that touch “scopier” & flowing, albeit the d. had the better tail carriage.

I backed the d. for BPIS because he DID have that scope (as did the gorgeous baby b) but clearly had the advantage of maturity & “finish”.
DOGS:Please read “r/w” as incorporating all shades of sabling where appropriate.

Howard Ogden

Minor Puppy Dog (13 entries, 3 absent)
To my mind this was THE most competitive class of the day, with many potential future Champions, so if I missed yours from the final cut then you may yet have the last laugh!
1st: (Mary Whitehill & Pat Urwin) Amicae Timeless Dream 6m b/w of such “timeless” quality & he was so “bang on” secure as to keep him in front; ideal size & shape; lovely face with his eyes, ears & refined muzzle; fine bone; gd neck, angles & topline; fine bone; hare feet; such an exciting prospect.
2nd: Mrs S Stanbury) Inixia Trademark 6m r/w & certainly a typically worthy representative of his breeding; gd skull with gloriously set ears; touch shorter muzzled; ex structure & body proportions; fabulous front; less firm as yet behind; gd neck & topline leading to a well set & carried tail; a stylish, scopy baby with an assured future.
3rd: (Louise Brown) Zoloto Lucky Winner 8m tri; another of absolute quality; lovely head with eye, muzzle & ears all correctly positioned; firm front; well put together; simply less forward that maturity should sort so as to prove he was well named.
Res: (Donna Marie Dunn) Sweetbriar Double Shot
VHC: (Mr P & Mrs J A Hill) Cariadeas The Firebird

Puppy Dog (9 entries, 0 absent)
And yet more with real potential.
1st: (Mrs C Lee-Slater & Mrs C Kewley) Magic Sunrise Ace Ventura (Imp LVA) 10m tri & I do hope it didn’t show that I was positively “drooling”; all is where you want it; will have stopped growing now, ready to fill his enviably elegant frame; superb headpiece; dark eye; mobile ears; fine muzzle; a neck that gives him a proud carriage; long, high tail arched over his back; soundly secure with a light, ground-covering action; as the adult classes progressed, so he was still in my mind as THE one to beat; his title is a certainty & I will be able to say it all began here today! BPD; Reserve Dog CC & BPIS
2nd: (Mr T R & Mrs C Headley) Yeldaeh Simply Red 10m r/w; another stunner; beautiful head & ears; enviable hare feet on fine bone; strikingly coated; ex tailset & carriage; well constructed & angulated with great neckline; absolutely sound; simply less mature & when that is sorted, he too will be right up there chasing his title.
3rd: (Jane Thompson & Sandra Austin) Melangel Highland by Design at Jhanakia 11m b/w; abundantly coated but not so as to detract from his quality & style; gd headpiece with well placed eye; ears could have been a touch more set back & oblique; well constructed with an ex rear where he moved both positive & true; another with the world at his hare feet.
Res: (Louise Brown) Zoloto Lucky Winner
VHC: (Mrs Rosemarie Hobson) Amicae Kenzo at Rosenjon

Junior Dog (10 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Miss Sophie Langdon) Skyvana Van Helsing 14m r/w; correctly rounded skull; well set ears; large, dark eye; defined stop; perfect size & ex structure; gd in rib & topline; ideal length; balanced mover on ex feet; ex tail carriage; soundly alert to all around to give not only an engaging performance today but to indicate he too will be in the reckoning upon full maturity.
2nd: (Elizabeth & Karen Anderson) Northlyte Spirit of the Isle 12m tri & another with an assured future & showing off his enviable tan markings; ex headpiece; gd in rib; well proportioned body; light & sound on fine boned legs & gd feet; pushed all the way as am sure he will continue to do as he moves into senior competition.
3rd: (Mr Peter Crower) Buoncasa Elf on the Shelf 10m tri whose handler can have every confidence in as he gained in stature through the day; classically, brilliantly marked & beautifully headed, scoring in eye & ear; has some scope about him with gd neck & tail carriage so will never coarsen; free, light mover; not one that will be “left” on the shelf as has plenty of winning ahead of him.
Res: (Mrs S Stanbury) Inixia Fully Charged
VHC: (Mrs L Morton) Ablazzor King of Spades

Yearling Dog (8 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Susan Lanson) Cantoverde Captain Casper 18m tri; litter brother of Res Bitch CC; gorgeous head enhanced by blaze & correctly set, mobile & heavily fringed ears; gd in neck, rib & topline; correct length gave him balance; well set & carried tail; light & free on the move, albeit can still settle a tad more in front; youngster of such exquisite type & quality as to have Ch potential.
2nd: (M LL & E Anne Griffiths) Manawyddan Victor Hugo 13m b/w; stylish & scopy but understandably more raw; relatively short & thick through muzzle & needs time to firm at pastern; excels in neck & a backline of correct length; has much winning to look forward to.
3rd: (Ms J D Ramsey & Mr C J Mowatt) Iotastar’s Brave New World rising 2yrs; colour not noted; smart & showy; gd basic structure; ex tailset off a level back; light mover; rather a small eye & rather too much taper to muzzle . . . even for me!
Res: (Miss E Patrick) Volepecula Tesseract

Novice Dog (3 entries, 0 absent)
1st: (Mrs Rosemarie Hobson) Amicae Kenzo at Rosenjon 10m r/w who was VHC in strong PD where he performed intermittently but he found his hare feet here; loved his scopy outline & refinement; lovely headpiece with ex eye & ears; firm at elbow; level; correct proportions all through; prefer more “lift” to his tail carriage; light & true on the move; has the quality & style to hold his own as he matures.
2nd: (Miss W Waters) Sweetbriar a Harlequin 9m r/w; a baby with so much to like once his bite sorts out; excels in eye & ears; ex shape from gd bodylines; level & stylish; light & free moving, albeit maturity will settle him in front.
3rd: (Miss M Moss) Delphlands Lord Boycie 12m b/w; rather too dainty; pretty headed & full of character; gd eye & well placed & used ears; gd in neck & topline; needs time both to develop in body & to firm in movement that is currently erratic.

Graduate Dog (7 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Miss E L Morley & Mr R Hitchcock) Elfuago Bombastic 2.5yrs tri of all Lafford breeding; so secure in body & movement; nothing worth changing beyond added maturity & “finish”; ideal size; gd in head proportions with a rounded skull, well defined stop & dark, round eye; mobile ears; level; gd in rib; gd carriage all round to move not only true but light & balanced on hare feet & fine bone; exhibited to advantage & will readily move up the ranks to take on the best.
2nd: (Carol Lees) Lafford Fireman Sam 2yrs tri; so much to like as he exudes breed type; correct head features & proportions; large & well set ears; his neck & backline give him a certain style; gd tail carriage; firm off his hocks but a bit careless in front; another one set to rise through the ranks & hold his own.
3rd: (Mrs S Stanbury) Inixia Ever Ready Eddie 15m r/w giving lots of age away & needing to coat up; truly lovely head & eye; level topline; correct body length into a gd tail carriage; a little straight through forehand.
Res: (Miss M C Waller) Lilnrose I’m a Lovebug JW
VHC: (Mrs Valerie Lockhart) Chetrude Dark Secret

Post Graduate Dog (13 entries, 1 absent)
Really good class.
1st: (Mrs S Stanbury) Inixia Fine Fella just on 2yrs b/w half-brother to 3rd in GD; exudes type & style; super head & eye; large, well placed ears; gd neck & topline; gd in rib; firm loin of correct length into a well set & carried tail; soundly balanced, so as to cover the ground, on the move; destined to reach the top.
2nd: (Miss S Orchard) Panspayon Eye of the Storm newly turned 2yrs b/w; indeed just 3 days between these two; bigger & heavier in build yet loses nothing in type; rounded skull; large round eye; fine muzzle; gd in rib & topline; went well with balance & light freedom.
3rd: (Mandy Keown) Jorgealin Midnight Magic for Kingshaven 2.5yrs strikingly dark sable; full brother of the BIS; such quality; loved his expressive face through his eyes & large mobile ears; fine bone; hare feet; correct length; well ribbed; smartly sound; flat tail carriage detracted; wouldn’t mind investing in his stud dog value however!
Res: (Miss E Patrick) Volepecula The Early Bird
VHC: (Mrs G A Geary) Taliesyn Black Walnut

Limit Dog (20 entries, 2 absent)
Breathtaking, if daunting, as I turned to see this array of talent and a 2nd cut of top quality would have been easy to achieve, This is why we need Grading so that each & every exhibit would have left the ring with my basic assessment and banish any thoughts of having been “thrown out with the rubbish”.
1st: (Mr M G & Mrs E Davidson) Northlyte Genesis of Elmaraine NAF TAF rising 4yrs tri; absolute quality; super shape & scopy style as aided by his neck, his length of loin & his tail carriage; lovely headpiece with correctly placed, large mobile ears; enviable feet; silky, well fringed, coat; soundly balanced on the move; worth a Ch title.
2nd: (Mrs A Boughton & Mrs S Stanbury) Inixia Follower of Fashion 2yrs b/w litter brother of PGD winner; super headed through eye & ear with defined stop & refined muzzle; gd neck & topline; has desired length; clean front; fine coat; light, true mover; can still mature on to then gain his title.
3rd: (Mrs L George-Evans & Miss E Morley) Elfuago a New Adventure 3yrs tri; full brother of GD winner; desirably dainty & still relatively raw, yet so typy in outline courtesy of his ears, neck, topline & tail carriage; well constructed; wonderfully light & free-flowing on the move.
Res: (Mrs Jeni Wiggins) Rozamie Monsieur Arther for Scapafield JW
VHC: (Mr A May & Mrs C Foynes) Lafay Petite Etoile JW

Open Dog (12 entries, 0 absent)
So competitive, right along the line up.
1st: (Miss J S King) Skyvana Tom Thumb Sarasha JW 2yrs tri; half-brother to JD winner; “dainty” as expressly required by the standard; typy & of ex conformation; most attractive head with rounded skull, well placed ear & medium, dark eye; balanced angles; gd neck & topline; firm loin of correct length to balance him out; gd tailset & carriage; he was THE outstandingly sound mover of the dog classes as it was positive, parallel & unrestricted; appeared between coats so as to lack “finish”.
2nd: (Jane Thompson & Sandra Austin) Melangel Highland Vogue at Jhanakia 4.4yrs r/w; took my eye on my initial look around; scopy; refined; expressive face with a super eye; large, mobile ears; gd neck into a clean front; gd in rib; length through loin; fine silky coat; tailset proved to be a little low; light, ground-covering, action; would have expected to find an exhibit of this quality, and maturity, to be titled.
3rd: (Mr M G & Mrs E Davidson) Rozamie Roberto of Elmaraine rising 3yrs b/w of true breed type; gd in skull, stop & muzzle with superb ears; firmly bodied through rib & loin yet still fine boned; hare feet; another I would have graded as of CC quality.
Res: (Mr AK & Mrs EA Bartram) Tresor’s Kings Valiant Lancelot (Imp USA)
VHC: (Mrs C M Kewley) Graycaz Chil your Boots

Champion Dog (2 entries, 0 absent)
So THIS is where they were hiding!
1st: (Miss K F Miller & Mr E L Ryan) Ch Feolig Smarty Pants JS SHCM 3.5yrs r/w; v “Butterfly” in type, size, character & style; outstanding head type; ex eye & pigment; refined in muzzle; gd neck & topline; ex conformation with balanced angles; gd in spring of rib & strength of loin; ex tailset & carriage; immaculate, flat, flowing silky coat; sound moving that is light & parallel, albeit a little exaggerated in front.
2nd: (Elizabeth Anderson) Ch Frasermar Storm in the Snow 4,5yrs tri with striking markings; half- brother of LD winner; heavier built d. with a shorter, thicker muzzle but still has scope & style; super skull, eye & ears; fabulous coat & fringing also immaculately turned out; level; ex tail carriage; hare feet; ground-covering, true movement.

Special Beginners Dog (3 entries,1 absent)
1st: (Mrs J L Green) Giramondo Von Jorgealin rising 3yrs r/w; unplaced in PGD; handsome headed & richly pigmented; dark, round eye & large, heavily fringed ears; gd overall structure; level; correct length; firm rear with a gd profile; somewhat overbuilt so as to come on rather wide.
2nd: (Miss M Moss) Delphlands Lord Boycie

Special Phalene Open Dog (3 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Mrs K Maskell & Miss M C Waller) Lilnrose Ears Looking at you Kazkell just turned 2yrs r/w; scopy chap of quality; beautifully refined in head with correctly dropped ears; gd in skull & eye; level & of correct length; gd tailset & carriage; flat, silky coat; light, positive mover if a bit careless in front; needs no “Special” concession to more than hold his own against those peers that hold them erect. Best I leave it there!! BPhIS. He wins this judge’s much coveted Best Name In Show Judges award too!! The Lifetime Award is still held by the late, much lamented, Gloucestershire Pomeranian breeder Mary Larrassey who (and this is topical) managed to get past the KC Registrations her singleton d puppy born 5th November, Warleggan For Fawkes Sake!
2nd: (Miss M Moss) Royal Razzle Dazzle Them TAF rising 11m b/w; unplaced in PD; v raw but smart & active; gd in head, ear & overall shape; needs to continue to come up on the leg, so as to balance out with his body length, & to firm up in action fore & aft;

Veteran Dog (10 entries, 2 absent)
Wonderful class to finish that made sure I had no “easy ride” right to the end.
1st: (Jane Thompson & Sandra Austin) Jhanakia Highland Desiny 11yrs 2m r/w; oozes breed type; scopy, sound & stylish; fabulous face; lovely eye; beautifully set & fringed ears; in apparently ageless body condition; excels in rib; long, strong loin; gd tail carriage; so light & free on the move on his fine bone & hare feet; frankly, he should have been titled. BVIS
2nd: (Connie Letch) Conysluck Master Pip 9yrs 10m r/w; absolutely lovely; true to specific breed type; beautifully headed; defined stop; ex eye & ears; well bodied; enviable hare feet; silky coat; sound & showy with alert carriage; CC quality.
3rd: (Catriona Nolan) Abbeyton Here we go Again for Loerburn 10yrs 10m tri; another of ex type & conformation; scores in head as much as in bodyshape; immaculately turned out; light & free flowing movement; would have graded as CC quality ( and others).

Championship Show 2018

28 July 2018

Before the show started, there was a lovely tribute to the late Jimmy Simpson. Not the usual sad one, but a fun one, which Jimmy would have got a good laugh from. Spoken by Queenie Bruce, who made everybody laugh.

2018 Papillon Championship Show

I would like to thank the Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club for inviting me to judge at their show and for the exhibitors for giving me the honour to judge their lovely dogs. I had a very enjoyable day and found many exhibits typical of the breed. I was delighted with my main winners and thrilled that my Co-Judge, Jerry Munroe and I completely agreed on all the major awards.
Joe Magri

Minor Puppy Dog (9 entries, 2 absent)
1st: (Mesdams C Lee-Slater & C Kewley) Magic Sunrise Ace Ventura (Imp Ltv) very elegant Tri dog who presents a lovely shape when standing. Excellent head and eye with super, large flaring ears with amble fringing coming, giving a lovely expression. Nice to go over on the table with lots to like about him. Finely boned forelegs with correct hare feet. Level topline and excellent high set tail. Still needs a little time to come together on the move but with maturity I have no doubt this will come and he will be one to watch in the future.
2nd: (Jane Thompson & Sandra Austin) Melangel Highland by Design at Jhanakia B/W boy of a completely different type to 1 but with still lots to like about him. Decent size and shape. Correct head proportions with lovely dark eye and well set, large ears that he used to advantage. Enough neck and well placed shoulders. Good body and substance for age. Nice topline and tail set. Good coat of correct texture coming in. Moved out soundly. For me just not the overall elegance as 1.
3rd: (Mr M G & Mrs E Davidson) Elmaraine Little Fidget
Res: (Mrs D L Watson) Buoncasa Jingle My Bells
VHC: (Mary Whitehill & P Urwin) Paparottsie Berry Licious

Puppy Dog (7 entries, 0 absent)
1st: (Elizabeth & Karen Anderson) Northlyte Spirit of the Isle lovely sized Tri male with a super balanced head and lovely expression. Finely boned legs and good hare feet. Decent length of neck and well placed shoulders. Enough body for his age. Correct topline and correctly set tail with lovely plume. Moved soundly up and back and very balanced in profile. Just needs a little more confidence to complete the picture which I hope comes in time as I am sure he could trouble the best.
2nd: (Mrs D L Watson) Buoncasa Elf on the Shelf another Tri boy and the baby of the class but he did not let the others over shadow him with his confident, cheeky persona. Very pretty head of the correct proportions and lovely eye. Well set, large fringed ears used to advantage. All of a piece as you go over him and has a lovely level topline and ideally set tail. Moved out well, just not the finish and maturity of my winner.

Res: (Miss Sophie Langdon) Skyvana Van Helsing
VHC: (Ms Vivien Fenn Webber) Adnamashan Take That

Junior Dog (6 entries, 0 absent)
1st: (M, LL & Anne Griffiths) Manawyddan Victor Hugo up to size 10 months B/W male who I would not like to see any bigger but completely my cup of tea. Excellent length of neck with correct front assembly. Finely boned legs and nice hare feet. Well bodied with good spring of rib. Moved around the ring with such elegance and style, holding a level topline and carrying his tail perfectly at all times. Lovely silky coat, presented well. I was delighted to award him BPD and after much deliberation with my co-judge (as we both loved both puppies) eventually BPIS. Well done, I will follow his career with interest.
2nd: (Mrs L Morton) Ablazzor King of Spades smart tri boy, in lovely coat and condition. Super head proportions with a lovely dark eye giving a pleasing expression. Large, mobile ears. Fine bone and lovely hare feet. Level topline and high set tail with good plume. Well bodied. Once settled moved well but not the showmanship of my winner.

Presented to best advantage with a correctly textured coat. Correct level topline and well set on tail, arched over his back. Scored with his free-flowing movement and ever so sound both coming and going. A strong contender for the RCC, I liked him a lot.

Good reach of neck and correct front assembly. So well constructed with good body and depth. Level topline maintained at all times and well set tail, carried correctly. Huge, rounded, well fringed ears that are used to advantage. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulders. Finely boned legs and correct hare feet. Decent body and substance with well sprung ribs. Level topline and well set on tail, arched nicely over his back with good plume. Moved out sound enough back and forth and with a decent profile action, however I would prefer to see him a little more free-flowing in action.
2nd: (Mrs S M Wilkinson) Lafford Inspector Morse in Poppywood JW another well marked Tri and of a similar stamp to 1. Lovely size and shape and presented nicely in a profuse silky coat. Pretty head, well marked with good stop and cheeky expression. Large, mobile ears with enough fringing. Good to go over on the table. Open Dog (10 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Mary Whitehill & P Urwin) Paparottsie Heart Beats at Amicae lovely sized, attentive B/W male who is so full of breed type. He is so dainty throughout and presented in a pristine silky coat. Exquisite head of the correct proportions with a lovely round, dark eye. Large, mobile ears with good rounded tips, fringed nicely, framing his head perfectly. Nice to go over on the table. Finely boned legs and correct hare feet. Topline held level at all times. Tail set on high with good plume. Moved around the ring with purpose and style but was slightly unsettled in front action today which cost him higher awards. Nevertheless a quality dog and I was happy to award him the RCC.
2nd: (Mr C & Mrs L Christensen) Tresor’s Kings Valiant Lancelot very typical & attractive Tri boy who has a superb head with blaze, finely pointed muzzle and lovely dark eye. He possesses the most beautifully fringed ears, which are large, well set and used to advantage. Correct bite. Good length of neck. Well bodied with a good spring of rib and strong loin. Level topline and correctly set ‘jug handle’ tail which for me could have more plume. Well turned stifle. Positive action when moving and very sound, would have just liked to have seen him a little more free-flowing.

Beautifully fringed, large mobile ears that frame his head nicely and used to advantage. Lovely size and shape, with good body and substance. Finely boned legs. Firm, level topline held well at all times with perfectly set on ‘jug handle’ tail with excellent plume. Well developed hind quarters with good muscle. 2nd: (Mr J & Mrs S Caton) Ch Coffe Ice Cream Forussi at Henrix (Imp Pol) another nice S/W who has matured a lot since I last judged him and of a similar type to my winner. Lovely size and shape and so dainty. Nice head and expression with dark pigmentation and sparking eye. Large, alert ears with enough fringing. Good body and substance with strong loin. Many thanks to the Committee for their kind invitation to judge bitches, and for their generous hospitality on the day. As usual, the show had a warm and welcoming atmosphere with lots of thoughtful extras for the exhibitors. The Club President Queenie Bruce gave a moving tribute to Jimmy Simpson, a founder member of the Club and former Club Chairman. Jimmy had devoted much of his life to the Club and was a great supporter of new comers in the breed. Indeed, it was Jimmy who encouraged me to start judging, and it was he who gave me my first judging appointment at Selby Canine Society. I will always be grateful to Jimmy for setting me on the path that ultimately led to my appointment here today at my favourite show.

Thanks also go to the exhibitors for their support and for allowing me to judge their dogs. I was very pleased with the entry, and having been away from the English shows for a while many of the exhibits were new to me, and I felt I was seeing the breed though fresh eyes. Whilst I was more than happy with my winners, there were a couple of points that concerned me. It seems that in some lines heads are changing, with quite a few girls being somewhat workman like in appearance. For me the papillon should always be a pretty, and bitches in particular should look feminine. We also need to watch construction as some otherwise good exhibits had lazy fronts, standing at 10-2. Finally, I found several crooked, and even one twisted tail. It is important to remember that as breeders, exhibitors and judges we are guardians of the breed and we have a responsibility to safeguard the integrity and quality of the dogs we produce and those we bring in to the show ring.

For Best in Show, my co-judge and I happily agreed on the dog Ch FEORLIG SMARTY PANTS JW ShCM, bred by Jenny Miller and owned by Kirsty Miller and Evan Ryan. Congratulations to all concerned with this lovely boy.

Minor Puppy Bitch (8 entries, 2 absent)
1st: (Mrs Lynn George-Evans) Jorgealin Tri Some Magic; tri bitch. This very pretty 7 months old bitch has a lovely balanced head with good proportions, correct bite and dark, inquisitive eyes. Her ears are correctly set, with good fringing for her age, framing her face well and enhancing her pretty expression. She stands and moves confidently, holding her top line all the while and her tail is set high and carried well. She was presented in immaculate condition and obviously adores her handler/owner; a lovely start to my judging today.
2nd: (Miss S Orchard) Panspayon Gold Fever; red and white bitch. At 6 months old this girl is still quite raw and very much a baby, but with nothing to hide she has much to commend her. She has a well balanced head, good stop, correct bite and dark, well set eyes. She has large, rounded ears which are well fringed and correctly set. In profile she shows a super outline with level top line, good reach of neck and a high set tail. On the move she was lively and spirited, and was obviously enjoying her day out.
3rd: (Mary Whitehill & P Urwin) Amicae Rosie Bud; red sable 7 months old. This pretty, well marked bitch has a well proportioned head set off by beautiful dark eyes and correctly set, rounded ears. She was a little unsettled on the table but recovered well once on the floor where she showed off her level top line and good tail set and carriage.
Res: (Kay Stewart & Kirsten Stewart-Knight) Denemore Tell the Story Ragge to Tussalud
VHC: (Mrs M A & Misses B, C & J S Mann) Melangel Diamond Doll

Puppy Bitch (10 entries, 2 absent)
1st: (Mrs S Stanbury) Inixia Glamour Girl; 9 months old black and white. This beautifully marked and well named girl caught my eye as she entered the ring. She has a very pretty head with dark, well set eyes giving her a bright and inquisitive look. She has well fringed, correctly set ears which she used expressively. She is well constructed, with a level top line, high set tail and parallel movement both front and rear. A quality bitch who’s progress I will follow with interest. I was delighted to award her Best Puppy Bitch and later see her go Reserve Best Puppy in Show.
2nd: (Kay Stewart & Kirsten Stewart-Knight) Denemore Ragge Knight Story at Tussalud NAF; 7 months old tri. This young girl is balanced and well constructed, though a heavier type than 1. She has a well proportioned head with dark, expressive eyes, correct bite and well set, rounded ears. Her coat is of the correct texture and was beautifully presented. She has a level top line and good tail set, and moved with confidence around the ring, being very attentive to her handler/owner. <
3rd: (Miss S Orchard) Ablazzor Angel of the North at Panspayon; 9 months old. This tri girl has a nicely balanced head with a well defined stop, dark eyes and correctly set, well fringed ears. She has a lovely profile with a level top line and correct tail set and carriage. She was lively and energetic on the floor but, perhaps in her enthusiasm today, she showed a tendency to high stepping at the front which affected her balance on the move.

Junior Bitch (9 entries, 2 absent)
1st: (C & A Thornton) Collness Kiss n Tell Shevid; 12 months old. This nicely marked black and white girl has dark, well set eyes, a good stop and large rounded ears. She needs to settle more on the table but is much more at home on the floor where she gave a good account of herself. She is well balanced in her construction and moved well and with confidence.
2nd: (Susan Lanson) Cantoverde Royal Chyna;18 months old tri. This strikingly marked bitch is dainty and well constructed and has lots of personality. She has a nicely proportioned head with a well defined stop, correct bite and dark and inquisitive eyes. Her ears are set at the correct angle, are well fringed and were used to advantage. She has a good overall shape, is lovely for size and is very attentive to her handler/owner, though she was high stepping a bit at the front today.
3rd: (E L Morley) Jorgealin Indian Magic at Lizlanmor; 18 months old. This beautifully marked tri has the darkest of eyes, a balanced muzzle, correct bite and well set ears, all of which combine to give a very pretty and soft expression. In profile she has a good overall shape with an elegant reach of neck, level top line and high set tail which she shows off proudly. I would prefer a slightly straighter front, though she does move soundly and with purpose, and is very much in tune with her handler/owner.

Yearling Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Miss K F Miller & Mr E L Ryan) Feorlig Wake up Maggie JW; 2 years old. This sable bitch with black mask and pencil blaze demanded attention when she entered the ring. She has a super shape with level top line, moderate neck and well set tail. She has a beautifully silky textured coat which was presented to perfection. She is dainty without being delicate, and moves soundly and with confidence. Up close, she has the prettiest of heads; large, rounded ears and dark, well set eyes with a mischievous expression. I was very happy to award her Reserve Best Bitch and the Reserve CC.
2nd: (Angela Kelton) Adnamashan Still Game; 19 months old tri. My notes start with the words Fire Cracker – and she certainly was! She is a well marked, pretty bitch with bags of attitude and fun. She has a lovely balanced head framed by correctly set, well fringed ears; level top line and good tail set. She is quite compact in construction but moves with plenty of drive and confidence.
3rd: (Mr P & Mrs J A Hill) Caraideas Rainbows End; 14 months. This is a lovely red sable bitch with the darkest and most expressive of eyes. She has such an elegant outline with a level top line, good tail set/carriage, super angles and she moves parallel both front and rear. Her coat is silky in texture and needs time to settle but was well presented. With a little more time to mature and build her confidence I’m sure this girl will have a bright future.

Novice Bitch (6 entries, 3 absent)
1st: (Mrs S Stanbury) Inixia Luscious Lucy; 9 months red sable and white. Litter sister to my puppy class winner and very much cast from the same mould. Another pretty head with large, rounded and well fringed ears which never rested. She has a beautiful outline and stood four square, showing off her elegant neck, level top line and good tail carriage. She was well schooled and very attentive to her handler/owner.
2nd: (Miss S Orchard) Panspayon Gold Fever
3rd: (Miss S Orchard) Abzazzor Angel of the North at Panspayon

Graduate Bitch (2 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Mr A May, Mrs C Foynes & Mrs M Whitehill) Lafay has the Last Word with Amicae; 2 years old. This red sable bitch is another with a mischievous expression and loads of attitude. She has a slightly rounded head with a well defined stop, dark inquisitive eyes and well set ears, which she used well. She is finely built and just needs to tighten up her front more. She was lively and enthusiastic on the move and was thoroughly enjoying her day out.

Post Graduate Bitch (5 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Miss D A Goodwin) Paplene Regal Roxanne; 3 years old. This cheeky black and white girl was a clear winner for me today. Her pretty head, framed by well fringed ears, has the darkest of well set eyes, which gave the softest of expressions but at the same time giving a glint of mischief too. She has a lovely straight front, good reach of neck, level top line and correct tail carriage. She was lively and energetic on the move and very attentive to her handler/owner.
2nd: (Laura Mandelson) Maridova Victorias Dream in Honrukai JW SHCM (IKC); 3 years old. This tri girl, despite being more robust in build than 1, is certainly not heavy in type. She has rich tan markings and large, rounded ears, dark eyes and a correct bite. Her top line is level and she has a good tail set, but I would have preferred a little more reach of neck to give a more balanced outline. She moved steadily and with confidence.
3rd: (Mrs G A Geary) Taliesyn Traveller Joy; 4 years old. This black and white girl was also of a more solid type than the class winner but is still a well balanced and nicely constructed girl. She has well placed, dark eyes and correctly set ears. She has a level top line which she holds both standing and on the move.

Limit Bitch (10 entries, 0 absent)
1st: (Miss S Orchard) Ringlands Yoko’s Solo at Panspayon SHCM; 4 years old red sable. This girl has a well marked head with large, rounded and well fringed ears. Her dark eyes are correctly set and give a soft expression. In profile she presents a balanced outline with good reach of neck, level top line and a well plumed tail. Her coat was of the correct single and silky texture and was beautifully presented. She moved well and was very much in tune with her handler/owner.
2nd: (Miss Sophie Langdon) Shadowknight Ebony Rose of Skyvana; 21 months old. This beautifully presented black and white girl has a lovely overall shape, with a level top line and correct tail set/carriage balanced by good reach of neck. Her head is nicely framed by the largest of heavily fringed ears and the whole picture is very elegant. Hands on, this girl needs to body up more. On the floor she was moved with plenty of speed which perhaps didn’t allow her to give of her best today.
3rd: (Mrs Eileen Roberts & Miss Caroline Smith) Semicvetik Dayana Devine; 3 years old, hound tri. This Phalene has the prettiest of heads with well placed tri markings. Her ears are correctly set and hang close to her head. They are well fringed and serve to enhance the gentle expression of her dark eyes. On the table she presented a lovely profile with a level top line and good tail set. She is well made at the front and moves well; her rear movement was a little erratic today. Her coat is single and silky in texture, and was well presented.

Open Bitch (7 entries, 1 absent)
1st: (Mrs Lynn George-Evans) Ch Jorgealin Moon Magic SHCM; 4 years old, red sable. This well marked girl has a balanced and well proportioned head with defined stop and good length of muzzle. Her eyes are dark and well set; her ears are correctly angled and well fringed with black tipping. The overall expression is soft and gentle. She is well constructed, being straight and parallel both front and rear. Her top line is level and her tail is set high and is well plumed. On the floor she moves with good reach and drive.
2nd: (Kay Stewart & Kirsten Stewart-Knight) Ch & Ir Ch Tussalud Story Tales; 4.5 years old. This elegant sable girl presents a lovely profile in the ring. She has good reach of neck leading to a level top line and high set tail. She is well constructed with a straight front and moved well around the ring. Her eyes are dark and perhaps a little larger in size, giving a slightly more open expression. Her ears are large, rounded and well fringed and she used these very expressively; engaging well with her handler/ owner.
3rd: (Mr P & Mrs J A Hill) Caraideas True Colours; 4.5 years old, tri. This compact, smaller type girl is nicely put together with straight front and rear, level top line and correct tail set/carriage. Her head is well balanced with no blaze but her dark eyes give a very pretty and endearing expression.

Champion Bitch (3 entries, 0 absent)
1st: (Mrs J Davidson-Poston) Multi Ch (3) Spinillons Classic Caress JS SHCM, CW14 PPVN15, Ir Jun Ch; 6 years old. This black and white girl is soundly constructed and has so much to offer. Her evenly marked head is balanced and shows good proportions, with a well defined stop; clean and correct dentition; dark, sparkling eyes, all framed by rounded, well fringed ears. On the table you are able to appreciate her balanced construction, level top line, correct tail set and carriage, and in addition she feels toned and well muscled. She has a bright and attentive expression, is well schooled and is very much in tune with her handler/owner.
2nd: (Mrs C Lee-Slater) Ch Jorgealin Cast a Spell for Kingshaven; 3 years old. This dainty and very elegant tri bitch also caught my eye in the ring. Of a lighter frame than 1, she is, none the less, soundly put together with everything in the right place. She has correctly set round eyes, a well defined stop and balanced muzzle with correct and clean bite, all of which combine to give a very pretty expression. She stands four square with a good reach of neck, level top line and correct tail set. She was a little unsettled on the move today, otherwise the placings could well have changed. A lovely, quality exhibit.
3rd: (Mrs Lynn George-Evans) Ch Jorgealin Moon Magic SHCM; another quality Champion bitch; unfortunate to meet 1 and 2 today.

Veteran Bitch (5 entries, 0 absent)
1st: (Miss E & Mrs M Buss) Ch Twiggy Cupcake of Flutura JW; 8 years old. An old favourite of mine who I have judged before. As a veteran she still maintains her great outline and balance, with elegant reach of neck, level top line and is beautifully straight both front and rear. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, she was presented to perfection as always and is a real credit to her owner. An easy winner for Best Veteran Bitch and then Best Veteran in Show.
2nd: (Mrs J Davidson-Poston) Ch, Ir Ch, Multi Vet Ch (4) Spinillons Saffire JW SHCM, PPVN16; 11 years old and not a grey hair in sight. This extremely pretty and well marked tri girl has lovely dark eyes and excellent dentition. She stands four square and carries her high set tail well. She has a profuse coat which was beautifully presented but perhaps made her appear a bit short in neck today. Her well fringed ears frame her face beautifully when alert. She moved with an energy and drive that could teach some younger bitches a lesson or two.
3rd: (Mrs J L Green) Mercedes Diamond at Rubywings; 7 years old. A lovely profile and shape to this tri bitch who presents a level top line and good tail set/carriage. She has a pretty head with dark eyes and well set ears. She was steady on the floor and moved well around the ring.

Special Phalene Bitch (3 entries, 0 absent)
1st: (Mrs J Davidson-Poston & Miss K Farrell) Ari De Pari Eadin Darlyn Spinillons (Imp Rus) (Phalene); 18 months old. This gorgeous tri-colour bitch was a real pleasure to judge. Watching her across the ring it was easy to see her clean and balanced outline with everything in moderation. She stood perfectly and elegantly with a level top line, good reach of neck and well set/carried tail complemented by her straight and parallel front and rear. Her head is very feminine and beautifully proportioned; her ears are correctly placed and she has the most expressive eyes. I had no hesitation in awarding her the Bitch CC and was delighted to see her go Reserve Best in Show as well as Best Phalene in Show.
2nd: (Mrs Eileen Roberts & Miss Caroline Smith) Semicvetik Dayana Devine Panspayon (Imp)
3rd: (Mrs T Collins) Bonmeshays Shady Lady; 5 years old. This black and white girl is well marked with lovely dark eyes giving a soft expression. Unfortunately today her ears are needing to settle more. She moved well and was very attentive to her handler/owner.
